If the "optics" of the Watson situation is a concern for the league, then this is very hypocritical, as it constitutes poor optics towards the NFL that they would say that the owner's standard is irrelevant.

Deshaun wants to file a lawsuit because the NFL did not continue an illegal police investigation. NFL policy cannot break the law. Also 30 counts vs 1 count is not compatible via scope and magnitude. The NFL needs to pay attention! A lot of things have changed over the past 3 years and life itself has changed, and many things have died and our way of life has been affected $ is one of those things, if Roger Goodell doesn’t get out of his own arrogant way they will slit the throat of the NFL and it will change and go away like so many other things. As with Giuliani, the NFL seems to think it can simply disregard the law, which the collective bargaining agreement is governed by. The NFL believes it can set different rules for the conduct of players while protecting the behavior of owners, regardless of what the agreement says.

The NFL can want that part of the agreement out but there is no way the players are going to agree to that. Nor should they.
