It's time for the Patriots to move on. He really looked old and slow at the tail end of the season, especially in that playoff loss to the Bills.

The game has changed, and big run stuffing linebackers are a thing of the past. Dont'a Hightower is a bigger, slower, declining linebacker who cannot cover. Although I understand his reasoning for it, opting out in 2020 didn't help him, and he came back as a shell of himself. The only thing I can see him providing the Patriots in 2022 is leadership for the young linebackers, as he is more of a liability on the field at this stage of his career than an asset.

I get that mentoring is important but I always see it as a secondary trait and this team clearly re-signed Brian Hoyer for that same reason. I don’t get using a roster spot to fill a coaches job even in a year like this where the coaching is so undefined.

Only way I'd want him back is if it's cheap. He can't cover anymore. He would be good on blitz packages and stopping the run but we got Rakweon McMillian and the soon to be stud Cameron Mcgrone . I see Jabril Peppers being a box LB/ Safety who can play that Pat Chung role. Hope he retires a Patriot though

I'd love to see DH come back, particularly in a duel role. He's still a good run stopper and, the most often that LB's get those nasty debilitating but not season ending injuries is in a pig pile with 330 lb ol men on a running play. Also an heir apparent needs to be established and Dante would be a great example for them to follow. With the proper use, DH can still be a significant contributor on the field and great influence off it.

You expect josh Uche to "play a little bit of LB" ? Well in May Steve B said he views Josh as part of the teams blueprint moving forward, I think that was pretty obvious when they released KVN. Barring another ankle injury he should see alot of time early opposite Judon

If anybody disagrees with resigning Dante Hightower, you're probably barely a Patriots fan. Dante Hightower is a team captain with McCourtey, he is a clutch line backer- our modern day Brushchi. He is one of the primary reasons we won superbowl LI and kept the dynasty alive. I also think he has a fire to retire on a good note for however many years he has left. I think the pandemic threw him back a notch, but team captains are captains for a reason and he has the right mind to regalvanize his performance. He deserves to retire a Patriot at the very least.

DH was always like that though. He does play hard during regular season. No one is always going to be perfect. There are going to be mistakes along the way. Like a play going one way, and then changing the next minute, but DH play outstandingly during the key play in really important games.

If y’all want Hightower back it has to be for mentoring and mentoring only. In other words DO NOT put him on the field unless for backup purposes. Our defense is slow that is why our defense sucks. If our defense was better we would’ve won a lot more games. We need to get younger and faster and it starts now. I really do love Hightower he was nasty in Alabama and is back in his prime but we need to move on
