Teams didnt care about draft picks until 1994 the 1st year of the salary cap before the salary cap players stayed with teams for 10 years.

Kirk Cousins is the biggest Vikings disaster since Herschel Walker.

I wouldn't put the RG III trade in the same category he came in his rookie year and played well, showed the patentability of being great but his Knee injury derailed his career. I would however put the bears trading for Mitch Trubisky up there. Bears giving up a 3 1st for a guy who might not even be a backup in the league… that's the type of trade that gets everyone fired.

When my brother and I heard about the trade (I am Judd’s age, my brother is 2 years older) we immediately both asked, “Ok, what is wrong with Walker?”

Even then, we didn’t believe in good fortune for the Vikings, and both of us didn’t trust Jimmy Johnson AT ALL. The amount of disrespect Jones and Johnson showed Landry angered my mom (dad was from Minnesota and mom was from Texas) and so we knew all those details, and believed these 2 men were reprobates.

My opinion has not changed since, tho Jones gets a “he will be dead soon, lighten up” emotion from me now.

70s, 80s, 90s they all wanted a Franchise RB. It was a run 1st league, Qb was 2nd option.

Herschel was a big baby…..he said later he was a Dallas fan, and never wanted to come thats why he never tried. You could tell two different players one tried hard with cowboys and one who didnt with Vikings.

I agree with Kirk needing to take more chances / risky throws–but I blame the play calling on Kubiak for many of those losses–BS 4 yard passes when they need 13 for a first down doesn't cut it–and yes Kirk needs to quit checking down–but i still blame the play calling for a large chunk of the offensive failure. Vikes easily could've won at least 4 of those losses with better coaching and play calling.

You guys should dig up the article in the Pioneer Press sports section the day after the trade. It said The Vikings SWINDLED the Cowboys. Front page Pioneer Press. I remember it well.

Mike Lynn. Please do a Reusse segment about Lynn, would be Gold, Jerry, Gold.
Was in Vikings endzone seats when Herschel too that first kickoff and broke free then the shoe flying off…we all thought we were going to the Super Bowl. I can still see that damn shoe flying off as Walker was coming right at us in my noodle.

No, when that happened I was just as upset as when they later drafted Christian Ponder. Much more so, I was gutted. They traded away several of my favorite players, plus all those draft picks.

They probably never develop John Randle without the trade. They took a waiver chance on Cris Carter because of it. They developed a 9th rd QB in Brad Johnson. They had a lot of success on decisions that probably would not have been made if the trade had not happened.

This trade is what made me a Vikings fan. I was 10years old living in Utah. When I saw the reaction from it on tv, I thought this team is gonna be great. I was wrong, hopefully they when it all once, before I die.

I always thought we used him wrong. He was a north/south RB but we seemed to ask him to run outside a lot on sweeps and counters. The offense was built for scat back Darrin Nelson and it's like we never changed it for Walker, which is typical Vikings. We try to make players fit our scheme instead of scheming for a players strength.

But the Walker trade never has to happen had we just taken Heisman winner Marcus Allen in the '82 draft instead of nobody Darrin Nelson. Still the most baffling thing this team has ever done IMO. Nelson didn't even want to play for us and threatened us to not draft him. That might be an interesting rewind if you want to go back that far.
