I think you hit the nail on the head that Zach doesn't need to be the best QB from his class. If you will look back to the 1984 NBA draft, much has been made over the years about the Trailblazers selecting Sam Bowie over Michael Jordan. But few seem to remember that MJ was the 3rd pick that year – # 1 overall was Hakeem Olajuwon. Hakeem isn't Jordan, but he was good enough that you didn't see many people complaining that the Rockets picked him over Jordan. I think it will be that way with Zach. Maybe Lawrence will be better in the long run. But I doubt Jets fans in the end will be upset that the Jets picked Zach.
(I'm not saying that anyone in the 2021 NFL draft is equivalent to Jordan and/or Olajuwon. So nobody accuse me of that.)

That's not a bad take but I don't think he needs to be better than Jones. I'd say he definitely needs to be as good as Jones however. If he's as good as him then we're more talented than New England so we should finish ahead of them.

He knows to show improvement but bad grammer or bad point by author. Who cares how mac jones plays. If he was serious he kind of set the bar low. Jets team done a solid job at free agency and draft. I dont know why vegas gave them 5.5. The team is vastly improved. Every fan looks at their own qb and hope they are better than last years version of themselves. If the jets dont get at least one over .500. Then you realize whether you have a franchise qb that can win the bowl. If not you know which direction to go. If you want to compare set the bar high. Mac jones was ok for a rookie. But they were team wins. Let wilson develop and he should do good. He has shown flashes shows a decent arm and is there athletically. His consistency is lacking but he just needs reps. It ‘ll come with experience.
How do evaluate good. If it’s by wins Mac was good but not great and Zach wasn’t. If you evaluate good as trends, Mack was regressing in his last few games Zach was improving. If you evaluate good by talent, Zach is head and shoulders above Mac. In the end winning matters, so Zach should be judged by his ability to bring the team together and win games.

ZW doesn’t need to compare himself to anyone. Go out there and be the best ZW you can be. If he’s playing better and the Jets are winning nobody will care about him vs another QB. What if Zach puts up slightly worse numbers than Mac but the Jets make the playoffs…would anyone care?

I really don’t care that Zach Wilson is “thick” or “beefy” or whatever else you want to use. Go out there and prove you were worth the 2nd overall pick and win some damn games! Everything else is irrelevant. He will be judged based on how many wins the team has nuff said. Bring your game to the next level

How much they run and how much they pass is what will determine how much you're gonna see in counting success based on passing TD's and yardage. Better stats would be yards/pass completion % and the competitive nature of the team.
Zach Wilson has a higher ceiling then Mac drones who has a high floor. Soon New England Patriots will see the need for a quarterback who can take them to another Superbowl rather than have them be competitive only.
So if Zach has the same year he did last year and Mac Jones tanks then jets fans should be happy? Or if Zach take a massive leap forward and Mac Jones makes the same leap then jets fans should be mad? Comparison ultimatums don't make sense for anyone.

I despise the Pats but let's be real. Mac who all the analysts said was over-rated had by far the best rookie year. 3,801 yards 22 TDs and 67.5 % completion percentage. He played the whole year and won 10 games and went to the playoffs. Ranked 13th in passing, 14th in TDs. If Zach had that type of year we would all be talking franchise QB. He absolutely destroyed us. Everyone was saying he is a dink and dunk passer which he was in the first half of the year. but in the 2nd half i watched him throw 20, 30 yards down the field. And who does he have at WR. nobody i can even think of off the top of my head. You have to give credit where credit is due. He was the best rookie Qb by far. He exceeded all expectations. He made Trevor, Zach and Fields look like amateurs .
The Jets have made much more upgrades then the Pats this offseason. We have to close the gap. I thought we would be comparing Zach to Trevor but now i think it will be against Mac. He is in our division we will face him 2 times every year.
Will Zach be better then Mac this year? I hope so but i don't think so.
Hot take : Zach will be marginally better than last year. but his receivers/running backs/oline/coordinator will be much better.. and thus, zach will be given the credit for being better.

Zach has playmakers now. He just needs to get the ball in their hands in a spot to do what they do. He doesn’t have to make awesome throws but if he does, we already know he can do that.
You are so correct as usual. Bad teams pick qbs at the top of the draft and are usually in abad position see Trevor Lawrence. Mac Jones was put in the best position because he was on a good team and picked in the middle of the 1sr round. This year I feel zach is in a good position
I also think fans shouldn't panic in the first 5 games.. too many new players and we need to jell …vera tucker didn't look good in the first five games before he became a monster. Once this team jells look out ….patriots will be trounced in new england
