Get that garbage off the air please
The Cowboys spin machine minions are in overdrive trying to convince Cowboys Nation that Tyler Smith was a good selection based on upside. I remember hearing the same rationale regarding Taco Charlton. I hope that Tyler does become a good player but please stop trying to sell us on what type of player you think he will become based on better coaching and fixing his technique. We had four years to fix Lael Collins and Connor William's technique. How did that project turn out? Clearly, Tyler Linderbaum and Jermaine Johnson were much better choices that were simply passed over because we reached hoping to find a diamond in the rough. Excuse me for not having a ton of confidence in a front office that GAVE AWAY a #1 WR and lost Randy Gregory over silly contractual language that no other NFL teams use in their contracts. You guys are reaching again if you try to compare this selection to selecting Travis Frederick who was rated the consensus best center in the draft plus we traded back to grab him and picked up an extra 3rd pick from San Francisco.
This guy should have been maybe a third round pick 😩 👹🔥🔥
I like the pick!
They might have improved at that position in strength but they also improved on the number of holding penalties that are gonna get big plays called back, make 3rd and short into 3rd and long and did it with a 1st round pick price. Maybe he will be good in a couple of years but I dont think he is the plug and play player we needed on that O-Line this year to be a contender. Hopefully I am wrong…
You All angry at this pick. The same that most of you were angry at the Travis Fredericks pick. Lets wait and see how it turns out. Fredricks Turned out to be a real good pick. I would have taken Jermaine Johnson because he is more pro ready. However, his dropping to 26 signals something was not kosher with him character wise. Most mock drafts had Johnson going earlier.
They mention Tyler's dubious award for being most penalized offensive lineman but as easy as you can find that you can research his entire body of work going back to high school. His road to being #1 in the last season of his collegiate career began back in high school as a top 10 most penalized o'lineman then at Tulsa he was again top 10 most penalized before winning it. Theres a reason why a 6'3"ish 300ish coming out of high school not being a tier 1 recruit but not even a tier 2 the dude is a natural born hugger and there isn't any hope of him changing its the old dog new trick and it ain't happening…bust.
Lol. He is the most penalized player in college
Primary & MAJOR difference between the two is this :
CWill's holding was a result of basically being overpowered
His knock was always lacking strength
Tyler Smith, (on the other hand), strength IS power
His weakness is technique/mechanics…
That's far more easier to teach than strength
Plus
Tyler will get stronger, (NFL strength), to boost what he already has naturally which will imo, (along with coaching), only lessen the holding tendencies
Now I thought and wouldn't have been mad at the more popular picks still on the board (due bc of the Dallas best writers and draft media hype talk vs my own limited knowledge of players)
But I'm excited we've addressed 3-major needs despite picking so late per rd so far
Tyler Smiths player comp is Lael Collins. lmao
if the cowboys had won anything in the last 25 years then i'd have more faith in them i.e. jerry and stephen
I love this kids demeanor, you can't coach that. He will improve his technique, his only issue is hand placement. His upside is tremendous if he works his ass off. Should be able to step in and play guard immediately. Fans are just upset because he is unknown to them. Now lets see if Kellen Moore is smart enough to run the damn ball behind these guys.
With him playing guard he is in a box and not exposed like at Tackle. He get to use some of that anger at guard. We need that Eric and Larry type Aggression
He looks like Eric Williams son.
i been hard on Stephen and jerry jones the draft comes every year its a crap shot at best. u try to project a players career combine or pro day stats whatever u want to use. i know the fans are disappointed with this pick lets check back three years from now see if this was a bad pick. All these players that are drafted got a tough road ahead the NFL is top of the world and if u got no game u be hitting the sidewalk there are no sure things u want proof look at Trevor Lawrence last year number 1 pick he looked like a bust last year.
So we’re still hoping the OLINE coach can coach this kid up. That’s where I’m worried about
Look, a lot of armchair scouts are only watching what they see, they are not taking into account age, years playing, technique ( as far as if it is fixable or not) They see what they see and they judge the player by that. A lot of those guys are not going to change their minds and say ' oh, I did not realize he only played 16 games in college, oh, I did not realize he has not played online for a few years. Etc etc. These guys are bad at protecting a player. Scouts are studying these guys all the time, they are not just looking at a guys film a couple of times so that they can make a YouTube video.
Smith is raw in exactly the right places.
I see an intelligent guy that wants to be great.
It's still a gamble, but a damn good one
Comparing Connor Williams to Tyler Smith is crazy. Go check out some Tyler Smith videos on Youtube. Tyler Smith is an attack style offensive lineman like Erik Williams and Larry Allen. I very well remember Erik Williams. I also remember watching Tyron Smith videos when he turned Pro out of USC. The guy had amazing speed and footwork. The rest is history.
Franchise is dead
I heard the same thing about Travis Frederick immediately after/during the draft. "Experts had him as a 3rd round player, Cowboys reached like some idiots" etc. When drafting a OL in the back half of the 1st Rd it's not going to be a sexy pick, we'll see how it pans out.
I do think Smith could wind up being better then Zion Smith has way more upside
I can’t wait for the league to say Tyler Smith was a tremendous pick a few years from now.
They’ll all say we all knew he had tremendous upside and they never had a doubt. LoL
Let the Cake Bake!
If this guy can figure it out , This guy is gunna be a Monster.
