As a Panthers fan , I am all for this move not to select baker Mayfield. I would much rather ramp up the O-line and D backs this year and keep cam newton on for at least two more years. and then draft a QB once we’ve got our base sorted out but until then there’s no need for us to spend a lot of money when cam newton is just as good or better as baker Mayfield right now.
Bringing up the Donovan McNabb trade is silly. The Eagles knew he was damaged goods and done, and the Redskins were stupid and willing to give up a lot to get him. I'd make that trade as well if I found an idiot stupid enough to make that deal.

Garoppolo at 12? A 12th ranked QB in the NFL is worth more than two 2nd rounders. 18-22 is more in line to where Jimmy G is. Based on what the NFL teams think of him that is……….

No teams want Jimmy G. His winning percentage is an illusion. The 49ers running games and defense carries to the SB in 2019 and NFCCG in 2021. He can win you games here and there but when it matter most, he really su**.
I’m a lifelong 49ers fan from the early 80s and I agree with you. I’m not sold on Lance and even though Jimmy hasn’t won the Superbowl yet he reminds me of Joe Montana. No he doesn’t have Montana Magic necessarily but he’s a quarterback that doesn’t have a huge arm and isn’t the most athletic quarterback on the roster but when he plays we win. We never should’ve traded him to the Chiefs and I’m afraid we will make the same mistake with Jimmy G. Also Trey Lance is not Steve Young either.

If Seattle offered 2 Second Round Picks for Jimmy G (HIIIIIIIIIIIIGHLY UNLIKELY, because Seattle knows what he is) and you are John Lynch you pull the trigger like Doc Holiday. Because Lynch knows what Jimmy G is as well (mediocre game manager) and that would screw over the Hawks BIGTIME. I think Trey Lance was a major panic pick mistake and the 49ers organization is trying to save face and try to get as much as they can…to draft another…..Q…..B. Unfortunately for the 49ers organization Jimmy G is still their best QB on the team even after his Shoulder surgery. Yes….that was a diss on Lance.
As a Seahawks fan I know my team is going to suck for a couple years (Fire Pete Carroll Cough! Cough!!). All I am asking is that the 49ers embrace that reality as well. Jimmy G has never been your answer and neither will Trey “Run for Your Life Cause I Don’t Know How to Read the Defense” Lance AKA “Lil Kap”.
If it was true, I think it was really a 2nd round pick & Sam Darnold (who the Panthers gave up a 2nd rounder to the Jets for). This would allow Carolina to get rid of Darnold's cap. At this point, the Niners would be lucky to get this. We'd get SOMETHING for Jimmy G (the 2nd rounder) and it would still be about $8M cheaper.
