2019 Clemson vs Ohio state was one that didn’t equate, however we all know the refs handed Clemson that game via a bogus targeting that extended a drive and resulted in a TD, and a laughable overturned fumble. The 2016 Ohio state Clemson however, that one didn’t predict the outcome either and that was a bloodbath. Clemson seems to be the one team that somewhat consistently won regardless of rankings. One thing on 2014 Alabama had 3 times the five stars Ohio state did and still lost, but I think that wasn’t realistic in terms of the team talent, I assume Ohio state had just as many or more Future NFL guys seeing as how I can think of about 10 that are still in the league.

I'm skeptical. It seems like if you replaced "Recruiting Rankings" with "Conference" it would be almost the same. Based on Recruiting rankings the SEC should have won probably every bowl they played this year yet they are 5-6.

Mix and Max. Its not an exact science but the same top teams corner recruits, win….then get more top recruits. Rinse and Repeat

The SEC had the talent advantage in all but TWO bowl games. In the games where they had the talent advantage they went 3-6. What's your analysis on that?

Oh lord. Wait, you mean teams that get the most 5-stars win? The logic is a bit backwards. It's like saying people with Ferraris are rich. So go get a Ferrari because it will make you rich. Good-to-great teams attract great players. Bama wins because it has Saban. Bama has top recruits because it has Saban. Bama with a lousy coach but top recruiting classes won't win but then again won't get good players. When you step away from the elite few teams that hoard all the 5-star players (as there are very few each year), recruiting rankings are a total JOKE and don't predict anything.

Not to get off on a tangent but the Football Power Index takes recruiting rankings into consideration. That's why I thought there was at least a fair chance Alabama and Georgia would be positioned highly against the spread. But it's not an exact science. As I'm sure you probably already know. It's important but development is also key. That's why it isn't limited to recruiting alone. But admittedly it's essential to any team's prospectus moving forward.

It can't be all about rankings because if it was there wouldn't be an outlier. Cincinnati is far outside the fringe to really be seriously given a reasonable chance yet they went. That's how I know it isn't only recruiting. Certainly it includes it. Obviously good recruiting helps. But we have to include player development. That's pivotal to the cause and the only explanation I can think of as to how other programs survive. Alabama can't win every championship. It's next to impossible. Irrespective of recruiting. Competition matters.
