Detroit ownership clearly had an inflated opinion of themselves. Makes me worry for Dan Campbell's sake.

People act like Doug was a fluke. Won a Super Bowl with a backup. I he next year was one alshon Jeffery drop away from making the nfc championship game with that backup again. Made the playoffs the year after with a injury depleted team AGAIN. All while dealing the fragile psyche of Carson Wentz and the GM making terrible draft picks. He should be hired this off season. Hopefully a decent team like Denver that’s a QB away picks him up

I don't know a single Lions fan who thinks firing Jim Caldwell was a mistake. He hit his ceiling. He's never going to win the division of there's any competition, or multiple playoff games. Hiring Patricia was an even bigger mistake than keeping Caldwell would have been, but keeping him would have been a mistake. Maybe he could make the Jags a better team than they are now, but they'll never win a SB, or even the AFC with him as HC

I’m not sure how successful Coach Caldwell would do with the Jags roaster, BUT I know he’d return respect and integrity back to both the players and fans.

Don’t forget JC got a bum deal in Indy too. He had 1 losing season after Dungee left and got kicked to the curb after the Colts went 2-14 the year Manning got hurt; losing his job with an organization who struggled to replicate Bill Polian’s success as GM starting in the late 2000’s .

Speaking as a Lions' fan, Caldwell was good for bringing stability, accountability, and setting a new standard. That is what the Jags badly need

However, he was only good enough to take the Lions to a fringe wildcard spot twice. He started off his second season 1-7. His last season he had multiple opportunities to gain us a playoff spot and lost every time. A shakeup was the right move, but Matt Patricia was the worst possible hire

Lions were 100% right to fire Caldwell. His teams were getting worse, started to unravel and get stupid penalties. Most of all though, he was fired because he couldn't beat winning teams.
Matt patricia beat as many winning teams as Caldwell, or close to it. Caldwell got wins against bad/mediocre teams. But couldn't elevate the lions to beat a team more talented than them

Caldwell was 4-23 against winning teams with the lions.
Matt patricia had like 2-3 wins against winning teams. He just couldn't beat bad teams, either.

Campbell, for comparison, already has a win and a tie(if steelers finish with a winning record) in his first season with a way worse team than Caldwell ever had. He'll be better than 4-23

Caldwell and pederson both got shafted but questionable owners. Khan isn't perfect but he is patient and I think both would be perfect and change the culture of the franchise.

The only problem is Baalke. I'm a niner fan and he is on sight in the bay area. Dude is a snake and a half. Should've booted him as well.

This would just absolutely set up Lawrence to follow Manning’s footsteps with Jim Caldwell being there for Manning’s early years in the NFL, this is a must hire imo

Caldwell is almost 67. Think they should go with a younger coach that won't retire in a few years. If Pederson is not the Jaguars coach next year I'll be shocked
