How about Herbert throwing the same interception in this game he did in the NE game to Adrian Phillips. Both involved Cook too. So much for Herbert learning from past mistakes.

What happens when the worst run offense meets the worst run defense? Two weeks in a row a secondary that cannot tackle. The issue is not depth — it is that the Staley scheme is too complex to be played by players that have not had a ton of practice together. ANY players missing on defense results in a cluster. The players on defense were not prepared against a simple opponent — that falls on the coach.

Ryan Smith? Ryan Smith had not played any CB since 2018. Special Teams player only for the Bucs

“I’m gonna open another beer.” I always agree with your approach to things, Daniel. lol

Yeah, we have too many holes, meaning the roster’s thin AND some starters aren’t league competitive. We’re a couple years out. Just the way it is. Still not a team they want to meet in the playoffs (if we’re healthy), but can’t hold up for an entire post-season run. Suspect we’ll sneak in this year and get one more game to watch. Or not, it’s fine.

You’re hypothesis is spot on. The drop off between the 1s and 2s are so bad. I hope Staley sees this

The Chargers just lost a Diehard today. Since 2002 I was a loyal fan, from Brees & LT, to Rivers & Gates to Justin Herbert. Goodbye Chargers, that’s it.

Really disappointing game. No excuses as Covid is impacting all teams. It's the team who is best prepared to deal with it. Just when you thought JJ was about to showcase why he is the #2 RB, he gets the ball stripped. Yeah our back-ups are not as good as other teams. Frustrating, but not surprised. If they win out the remaining 2 games, do they play the Bills in Buffalo?

Look this team has done this all year. That's why when you're in a game of this magnatude you have to be able to change to a less complicated scheme. Both offense and defense and special teams was not coached up to win a game that definitely should have been won.I can't believe that game had so many missed tackles on defense. The offense could run the ball but when you have Allen only targeted 4times.Are you kidding me.This team from top to bottom should be embarrassed so bad that playing the last two games with any hope of playoffs should make the entire team coaches and players kill anything that moves.Have some pride Chargers and show up for these last 2 games.Staley you need to wake up and coach a more simple game plan that can be executed.

Absolutely correct on the drop off of talent. Outside of our pro bowl talent which is about 10 players, we have below average players filling out the rest of the starting roster. The back ups/Depth is a another issue as that is completely non existent. You look around the team we don’t have depth ANYWHERE outside of WR. One of the 3 worst teams in the league had BY FAR the better depth and that is beyond sad, I didn’t know it was that bad for the chargers but it is. Idk if one off-season is enough to fill all these holes.

you nailed it pop .. the drop off is bad .. that’s why ST has been sooooo bad .. and that’s on tom t … period … yes he gets credit for the top players but if you’re going to give him credit for that you have to criticize the lack of depth .. that’s on the GM.. i’ve been hearing “ next year “ for the last 15 years pop .. just a heads up , i do trust staley though… the roster isn’t there yet because of the front 7 on defense .. all in on defense in the off season and yes over RT at this point … we’ve lost games due to piss poor front 7 play on d .. get another edge rusher and some meat in the IDL and some savage run stuffing LB

When you're Offense gets you 29 points against a very depleted Texans roster and you still lose, badly you know something's terribly wrong. What really annoyed me was the lack of effort shown from a lot of the players. There's no excuse for that garbage juice performance. I don't even know if I'm watching the Broncos game, my heart can't take it. I still love this team and I believe they can do great things but changes need to be made for real progress.

PFF said as much regarding our depth. That the Texans backups are the same quality as their starters, whereas the Chargers starters are great without any depth behind the starters.

I think your hypothesis is spot on. we need go give it some time for Telesco to build the roster. But again, this happens every 4 years.
Year 1 – lets give the new HC some time
Year 2 – Ok, we made the playoffs
Year 3 – HC lost his coordinators to other teams
Year 4 – we need a new HC

    rinse and repeat

Only 1 other team in 31 years allowed greater than 50% 3rd down conversions. That means defensive genius Brandon Staley's magically complex defense is the 2nd worst out of (31yrs. X 32 teams) 992 teams. Until proven otherwise I'll believe Aaron Donald is the reason for Staley's great success as a defensive coach at the Rams.

The Chargers offense didn't help the defense that much. They gave 17 points to the Texans just off of turn overs.

Staley's defensive system appears to require all 11 players to perform at a high level, in sync, consistently – on every play. That also requires starters who don't get hurt – or backups who play like starters. Our backups simply can't execute Staley's scheme. How deep do we have to be for this defense to live up to Staley's reputation? Will we ever be deep enough?
