I think McNamara is a very solid game manager and is a very safe option. However, he has a very clear ceiling and he isnt far from it. I worry with him in the big games which still remains to be seen some but I dont know if we will be able to grind out teams like michigan state, penn state, and ohio state. McCarthy certainly seems to have a higher ceiling but he is clearly less experienced which I think it noticable on the feild. I think with McCarthy our offense has more potential to be much more explosive allowing us to offensively compete better with those higher caliber offenses. The issue with mccarathy is you are likely to see more growing pains. The other side of that is that without the game time he wont gain that experience and work through those growing pains. It's truly a tough decision but I personally believe that in the long run McCarthy is the future and getting him that experience will likely lead to a higher chance of the most success then sticking with McNamara but I can still see us potentially winning out to finishing with 2 loses with McNamara this year.

One 5-star, and 15 3-stars. Nothing to be excited about. And the people who say that recruiting doesn't matter are very foolish. They say that player development is more important. Baloney! Player development is a very small part of the equation, and recruiting talent that is already present is the way to go. Look at Bama, always recruiting the best players.

Harbaugh plans on competing with OSU by recruiting 15 three star players? If your an OSU fan, you have to be happy Harbaugh is still coach at U of M.

I like Mark Rogers, but this guess does not know what he is talking about. Michigan is swinging and missing on many higher rated players. Tatum was a swing and miss, as was Van Sumeeran. Joshua Joseph is looking like a swing and miss, so is Barton (Utah). To say that Harbaugh is going after character guys as a reason for why this class is where it is, is literally talking out the side of your neck. I also can't believe this guy is not talking about some of the higher end players who could help finish out this class and NIL….what the hell….?

Or maybe they are actually scouting, look around the NFL, a lot of players come from many different schools and it's not all coming from the top schools.

Literally nothing infuriates me more than these bone-headed people who reference anecdotal accounts of 3 stars being very successful as a way to prove stars don't matter. As if it isn't obvious, the teams at the top consistently get elite talent. There's a reason teams like Georgia, Clemson, OSU, and Alabama seem to have monopolized CF the last decade. It's because they've monopolIzed recruiting.

Going by statistics, 4 and 5 stars have the greatest chance of being successful football players. Gathering as many 4 and 5 stars in your class doesn't guarentee you a great team, as virtually no player is a guarenteed star. What it does do is maximize the statistical chance of recruiting elite players that will make a great team.

Really debate? To win on the road in a "whiteout", which star means a freshman is ready for that? How about facts: Tua Tagoviloa 2 ints in first 77 passes; Trevor Lawrence 2 ints in first 60 passes; Mac Jones 2 ints in first 79 passes. Not only is there a lower floor, there's a basement

Nw vs rut is not a good comparison. Rutgers went thru a rough few weeks with um, osu, and msu. They were tired and beat down. It worked in nw's favor.

I think the issue for Michigan recruiting is that they have so many new coaches that they have to build connections to recruits. That's a big deal in recruiting. They are finding guys that fit the schemes they want. With Michigan having a great year I think the 2023 class will be higher in the rankings

If high school class ranking mean so much why do Iowa and Clemson have the same number of players in the NFL. Iowa almost never gets a 5* and they get only a smattering of 4* yet they have as many players in the NFL as Clemson does who always has at least a top ten recruiting class if not a top five. Iowa at best gets top fifty recruiting classes? The rating system is bull shit that’s why. The reviewers only go into the South East and mostly ignore the rest of the country.

If you’re a musical artist and you have 2 albums that are both good but one visibly better than the other you’re putting the better one out. I don’t understand how this same concept doesn’t get applied here where there’s been numerous other teams doing it with some success.

I think you are assuming this recruiting class is the same as other years.. We only had COVID last year where there was practically no football in the country and there were not many evaluations… The ranking is a crap shot in how much it is fluctuating this year compare to other years.. At the end, I concur that higher star recruits has direct correlation to Big Ten title and NC… BUT you are assuming the evaluation is the same as the prior years.. It is just not the case…

I would not trust stars right now with all the covid mess last few years. Plenty of kids not traveling to camps to get noticed. Plenty of 3* have turned out at UM and plenty of 5* have been huge failures Derrick Green. People way over react to ratings. Dantonio did a hell of a job for years with lower rated guys. UM has plenty of 4 & 5 stars in other classes plus this one is not over we are in on several still.

Recruiting really really needs to go away from the Star system and only pay attention to the player grades which still is a bit inaccurate since these kids are 16-18 year olds still growing and a lot can change by the time they are 21-22 years old.

one thing about Cade that i rarely hear anyone mention is that he still only has 7 career starts and has shown he is growing and you cant say their floors are the same without seeing what's happening in practice. people act like Cade is a multi year starter with all this experience and he really isnt I mean he has played in only 2 to 3 games in which he played all 4 quarters
