I think, we will draft a guy from Bama or Clemson in the first Round. So it COULD be Barmore. But I think Gruden and Mayock are that Bama and Clemson focussed.. and when I look back to the last Draft.. tbh we wasted our first round picks last year

Not moving on from a Trent Brown first of all. #17 pick Is simply top rated Defensive player that's available DL LB or EDGE. Those 3 positions fill in first 3 picks. Plus Incognito comes back OG. Safety? 4th pick- take a flyer on a tackling machine type. And grab another proven from FAgency or trade. Edit:
Hard to believe have had 5! – 1st rd picks last 2 years. JJ only true one. So other option is to trade out of.

Zaven Collins is my guy. IF Trevon Moehrig could fall to us in the second rd. It would be a home run draft.

This is how I look at it.

Clelin Ferrell took a major leap his sophomore year and in my opinion, he's our best defensive lineman. Maxx Crosby although has been the most consistent at registering sacks, he contributes little to nothing else. Until he works a bit more on his technique and builds more muscle mass, he simply shouldn't be a starting edge rusher for us. Maurice Hurst has been the highest graded defender on our roster every single season since drafting him, but sadly his healthy conditions seem to be holding him back from receiving a full starter's workload. Hankins is a decent at best run defender who generates a below average amount of pass rush. Nick Kwiatkowski and Morrow played very well for us this past season, both ranking inside the top fifteen of lowest passer rating allowed when targeted (Kwiatkowski was 7th or 8th). Corey Littleton although had a lackluster season, he's shown what we expected of him after we fired Guenther. We just paid him a massive amount of money and we simply aren't prepared to move on from him after one bad season. He went from being one of the best coverage linebackers in the league throughout his entire career to being considered one of the worst in the duration of a single offseason. This clearly has to do with the coaching and understandably so. Raekwon McMillan, considering we resign him, has looked like a pretty damn good rotational player for us, especially on running downs. Mullen and Arnette have the talent and tools to be lockdown corners. Trayvon for most of the season was the highest rated press-man coverage corner in the league. Damon was the highest graded press-man coverage corner entering last year's Draft class. Ironically, Paul Guenther put them in zone coverage most of the time for whatever reason. LaMarcus Joyner is a liability at Nickel corner and is far too inconsistent. Joyner was the highest graded coverage safety in the league the year before we signed him and switched him over to Nickel, which obviously was a mistake. Despite Abram's low grade, he's going to be a very good player for us in the future. Take away some unnecessary penalties, some missed tackles (seems like mainly because of his injuries throughout the season), and a blown coverage here and there, we have ourselves a great FS. Discipline and better coaching certainly should benefit Abram in coverage especially considering the man has the talent to actually cover recievers. We've seen it plenty of times throughout the season and the main times he blows a coverage is mainly from him looking lost in what his role for the play is supposed to be or being too hot-headed and getting too ahead of himself.

The main holes I notice in our defense would be improvement at Nose Tackle/Hankins replacement, defensive end across from Clelin, rotation between Hurst, improved Nickel play, and a true SS to play across from Abram.

Nose Tackle is one of the most stacked positions entering free agency this year, and with us likely letting Hankins walk, we shouldn't have any problem improving at this position. I do not see us breaking the bank signing a starter and a clear backup though, so I'm fully expecting us to address the backup role in the upcoming draft. Alim McNeil is the clear number one Nose in my opinion and we may be able to snag him in the third round. Now looking at someone to rotate with Hurst, we should look to resign David Irving. Irving although was mainly working his way to get back into football shape again while with us this season, he's shown plenty of good things in the few amount of snaps he was given. He'd be cheap, would definitely be ready for football next season, and would provide the perfect backup DT to rotate with Hurst. This year's free agent edge rushers are pretty hefty also, similar to Nose Tackle. We could address this position in either free agency or in the Draft, it does not matter as long as we sign/draft the right player. For example, Ngakoue could be a great signing, but drafting somebody like Azeez Ojulari would also be a fantastic move. Instead of releasing Joyner because his lack of success at Nickel, we simply should move him to SS across from Abram then draft either Kary Vincent, Shaun Wade or Elijah Molden to improve at Nickel. Win/Win scenario by one single draft pick. If we do these things and have proper/consistent coaching our defense should easily be able to make a huge jump from last to at least average.

I'm really not looking forward to this draft. Feels like nothing we pick is gonna massively change the team. We're desperate for a top tier CB, Safety and an Edge Rusher but it doesn't look like there's any where we're picking. Not like we've got much draft capital to trade up with either. Rumour is that Gregory Rousseau is the pick but I don't trust him after only one year of elite college production. He profiles better as a Run Stopping DT on the inside. Kwity Paye, Holland, Koramoah or Barmore would be the best we could hope for. Knowing Gruden, he'll pick a 2nd or 3rd round talent instead because they're "Passionate, gritty, determined and a hard worker" . All terms you use to describe a player who isn't a first round talent or a game changer.

DT or LB, I think Crosby and Nassib are good enough that we don’t need a 1st round D-End and we struggle terribly with the inside rush and keeping good line backers. I think we’d do best with Barmore or Owusu-Karamoah

Barmore all the way. If we can't get an inside rush having a stud safety or a stud linebacker won't matter. If we give up 30 points a game because we can't get a stop the OT doesn't matter either. Going back to the 2019 draft we had a direction, that was, give preference to players from Alabama/Clemson and then the broader SEC. We need a stud DT to pair with yannick ngakoue and Ferrell.
