49ers at one point were 6-5 and in threat of missing the playoffs. They went on a roll at the end to say the least.

We could all say it wasn't a great idea for Bill Walsh to alternate Steve Young and Joe Montana in the first half of season. Bill Walsh knew what he was doing. He was getting Steve Young ready for the West Coast offense. Steve Young became a full time starting quarterback for the 49ers in 1991. And the rest is history.

Richard, I want to thank you for this upload and all the other 49ers games you've uploaded. It's been fun going down memory lane and reliving the games from my childhood.

I was wondering if you have the 1992 49ers/Lions game which Montana played the second half and was his last game in San Francisco.

After this game the 49ers lost 3 out of 4. They were at 6-5 before going on a tear and only losing 1 game in that run.

First off, thanks Richard for the post. The early 3Q of this game reminds me how frustrated I got in that season where Bill tried to replace Joe with Steve for some reason I could never understood. Steve did not look ready to take snaps. He played poorly throughout the season except for one run against the Vikings and a game in the following week against the Cardinals the game they lost in the end. Unfortunately, I could not get over with the sense of distrust against Steve until long after he retired. Even though now I appreciate how great he was and fortunate for us to have him, but I still believe the Niners could have won more Super Bowls after 1993 if Joe stayed and given an opportunity to play.

how did they determine the division winner back then, when both teams finished with the same record, split the season series, and had the same record against their division…? i ask because that's what happened to both these teams, but SF won the division…
