58:50. If Eric Wright doesn't make that horse collar tackle, the Cowboys play the Bengals and probably beats them. Horse collar's were legal back then, but again no one ever talks about "the tackle" that saved the 49ers dynasty.

LOL! The 6 HATERS are probably COWBOYS fans. I was 6 years old when the game was played (I turned 6 in November of 1981). I remember who I was with, (my mom and sisters and my aunt Yogi and my cousin Richard) and where I was at (at my Aunt Yogi's house).

My cousin Richard said that he COWBOYS would win. LOL. I don't know why he said that because he's a NINERS fan.

Nobody ever talks about the fact that Tony Hill did not get two feet down on Dallas' first TD. The second foot landed out of bounds. Today the play would've been overturned. Doesn't matter now, of course, but that's what happened.

The 49ers had a truly modern offense in 1981. Watching them is like watching a good offensive team today.

If you get the right angle on The Catch, not necessarily in this video, just in general; you can see a young Tom Brady and his dad in the endzone stands. Really. He was there.

Damn, the Cowboys were at the 45 with 40 seconds left with a timeout left and only needed a field goal. I didn't realize they were so close to invalidating "The Catch…"

That game didn’t send the Cowboys into the abyss. The Cowboys sent themselves there, through crappy drafts that finally caught up with them, as key veterans retired. If anything, that game exposed them.

It shouldn't even be called the catch, it should be called the pass, because how in the world did Montana place that ball so perfectly while running away from the goal line and falling away from pressure? Even with modern day QBs, 9 times out of 10 in that situation. the pass will either be overthrown into the stands or underthrown and knocked down or intercepted. And yet here's Montana making a play that would be much more typical of a superstar modern QB. That's the really amazing bit to me. It's an unfortunate ending for my team (Dallas) but respect to Joe for making that play. And Dallas still almost won in the end.

Late in the documentary, Drew Pearson says that “before that there was no mystique, no aura about Joe Montana” (1:05:42). While he certainly wasn’t the legend Joe Montana yet, he did have the reputation of being a “comeback kid”, which goes back to his college career – especially the 1979 Cotton Bowl. I don’t know if or to what extent people remembered him for that at the time, but at least Vin Scully mentions the “comeback kid” nickname at one point in the CBS broadcast.

59:38 It looks like #22 Dwight Hicks is in place to stop Drew Pearson if Eric Wright's shoulder pad finger tackle fails. But not before Drew Pearson would have made at least ANOTHER 7 yards downfield, to the San Francisco 37 yard line, dangerously close to Septien's field goal range. Next play 1:00:34 too bad there is no way to see more of what is happening downfield. Tony Hill appears to be breaking open behind #21 Eric Wright, and yet Danny White definitely pulls back instead of releasing a pass, a second before the fumble happens. I wonder if anyone was really open back there or not. No good downfield camera shot showing everything back there appears to exist for this particular play. Tony Dorsett, Ron Springs, Butch Johnson, Drew Pearson, and Tony Hill all downfield running pass patterns at the same time. Sounds dangerous for the 49ers. Very dangerous. Only one pass completion of 15 yards and Dallas is in winning field goal range, and there are still over 30 seconds left and the Cowboys still have 2 timeouts. What a clutch forced fumble sack by Lawrence Pillers and fumble recovery by Jim Stuckey.

Not only did the 49ers commit 6 turnovers (to the Cowboys just 3), but the 49ers also had a huge 106 yards in very costly penalties (to the Cowboys just 39 penalty yards).
