I was 15 at the time. After so many years of painful defeat to go to the greatest of glory, this team will always be my all time favorite.

This season was monumental on many levels … just a young Tom Brady in the stands of the NFC championship and what if Dallas wins do they dominate the 80s … so many things in the history of the NFL could have been different

Just like my own life had changed in the early 1980s as I entered my teens, my boyhood idols from the 1970s in the NFL gave way to a new generation that included my beloved Giants, and, briefly, Jets. Clark's catch was definitely a watershed moment.

This was not a dynasty, just a dominant team. A dynasty is four consecutive championships, with no holes in the middle. They won five out of sixteen and were even-money almost every year. Giants won two, Redskins and Cowboys won three during this "Dynasty."

I don't know why but maybe its because I grew up on it but the old film quality with a washed-out matted look, looks beautiful to me. Especially the Niner red $ gold color in the 70s/80s. I think it was in 1983/84 NFL films changed camera equipment because the film quality was much clearer afterward.

These two plays at 9:45 and 10:08 where Lott hits the RB and Hicks returns it for a TD and then his INT TD on Theismann, made me a 49er fan for life!

That NFC Championship game was what set Montana apart from so many other quarterbacks. As was mentioned, the 49ers turned the ball over 6 times and Joe was responsible for 4 of them. The confidence of so many quarterbacks, both past and present, would be shot to hell if that happened to them. But not Montana, he still believed he could take the offense down the field and score the game winning touchdown, hence why he earned the nickname “Joe Cool”.

That’s right kids we had to watch halftime on Monday night football to see highlights of SOME of the NFL games. I’m a Packer fan and it was like Christmas but less frequent seeing Packer highlights on MNF.

The most recurring theme that seems to precede good things for the niners comes after beating Dallas.

I wish this video included Eric Wright's shoulder pad tackle of Drew Person after The Catch. He doesn't make that tackle there is no 80's Dynasty.

49ers of the 80's was unreal.
49ers 80's defense was always underrated.

Nobody seems to remember Dallas got the ball back and only by sheer luck the Whiners got Pearson. If D.White doesn’t fumble, Cowboys kick field goal and nobody hears about that douche Montana

Why don’t they ask them how they felt when Dallas got the ball back and in one play got into 49ers territory with plenty of time to run a couple play and kick a field goal.

    Ohh yes…that WAS a safety.
